Viking Soul Food
My first and favorite for now:
Viking Soul Food. a legitimate viking experience. My favorite at this food cart is the savory lefese, with sliced meatball, goat cheese, and shredded cabbage. With amazing sides, I wouldn't know what to recommend. The link to their web sight is below. Beware of their funky hours, and they sometimes run out, so get it when you can. rating: 89/100, a true rose. info: viking soul food cart 4262, SE Belmont st, Portland, OR 97215 http://www.vikingsoulfood.com/#home Nearby: Belmont station: (for beer) 4500 SE Stark St, Portland, OR 97215 http://www.belmont-station.com/ Thanks for reading! |
Pine State Biscuits
this restaurant is largely popular in Portland, with three locations and lines of people streaming through the doors. I, however am not too fond of this place. It seems like someone that that grew up on chicken nuggets went on a week long trip to Texas, came back, and decided to start a restaurant. I personally liked the hash browns though Beware: long lines, and some things have wayyyyy too much paprika. also not very vegetarian friendly. Rating: 48/100: a thorny rose. Nearby: Salt and Straw http://saltandstraw.com/ Koi Fusion
This food cart knows its stuff. with Korean-Mexican fusion, this place sounds weird, but tastes amazing. my favorite thing to get whenever i go is a burrito with half kalbi ribs and half bulgogi burrito. Delicious. This food cart is now a restaurant, and you should check them out.
beware: spice; ask for non spice if you are not a spicy fan. again, they have some, but not many vegetarian options. rating: 70/100 a good rose. info: http://koifusionpdx.com/ { check out their web sight because the hours and locations are a little wonky} ShandongA small business gone popular, Shandong is a quality Chinese food restaurant. With foods from both southern and northern cultures, Shandong is a hit. Some of my favorites are the Shandong beef, pork pot stickers, the green beans, and the mushu pork.
Beware: The place is always busy so make sure you call ahead and see what the wait for a table or takeout is. Also, the parking isn't always fabulous Helpful tip: check the specials above the bar, there typically pretty good. Rating: 67/100, a blooming bud. Luce!
A tiny, not-heard of restaurant nested in a corner is home of simple Italian delights. I loved the elegance of the food and the menu, and the restaurant is a magical little place, with bottles of wine and delicacies lining the walls. My favorite on the menu was the soup with the flavorful pasta pockets in beef bone marrow broth. again, simple, elegant, and amazing
Beware: It is a tiny place, so you probably should call ahead, and avoid large groups

Reverend's Barbaque
This very popular restaurant is made up of amateurs. First of all, when I went, on father's day, they were out of ribs. On father's day. An embarrassment. Also, their Tempe is just plain gross. Also the potato salad is weird- tasting. do not put tofu on a sandwich. Eww. but...., Their pulled pork sandwiches are okay, but buyer beware.
Beware:
the Tempe and tofu.

The Old Spaghetti Factory
A Portland classic, nested downtown, filled with elegance and chandeliers, but still pretty affordable. This is a great place to go with family, or just by yourself. With a full bar, this place is good for all ages. My favorite here (although almost everything is good) is the spaghetti with Mithra cheese. Delicious.
Danger: Keep track of kids; it's a huge place
Helpful tip: Bring your quarters! there's a game room upstairs for kids or adults.

po'shines cafe de la soul
classic south soul food. good chicken and waffles, classic style, not hipster style. with not greasy, not boneless. classic fried chicken. I personally didn't really like my grits, but everyone else's food was good. they liked the wing plate and the catfish and they thought the service was excellent.
